Our History

Locally Founded and Managed in San Diego

Founded in San Diego, California in 1979 by Jack Good and Stan Roberts, Good & Roberts (G&R) has always valued relationships and the guiding principle of treating others with respect and integrity. This philosophy was consistently reinforced during the early years of the company when the founders handed out “Golden Rule Marbles” to employees, customers and subcontractors as recognition for demonstrating that principle. As the company grew this philosophy formed the basis of our core values and company culture.

In 1987 Stan Roberts retired and Jack Good purchased his share of the company. Since that time the Good family has been the only stakeholder of the company. Throughout the transition of ownership, Jack never lost the value of Stan’s contribution, and for that reason has maintained the Roberts name with the company.

Over the years the company has grown from a small start-up to a mid-sized commercial contractor specializing in ground-up buildings, industrial, manufacturing facilities, and complex tenant improvements for the technology and life sciences industries. Leveraging our experience with mission critical projects, G&R has developed internal processes and people who are adept at building a variety of specialized projects within occupied spaces. Our award winning team of professionals takes great pride in their workmanship, the services we offer, and our team approach to delivering the very best value for your dollar.

In July of 2013, C.W. Driver acquired G&R as a wholly owned subsidiary. ENR Magazine ranks C.W. Driver nationally among the top 100 Construction Managers and top 100 General Contractors. The genesis of this acquisition was a strategic move to broaden C.W. Driver’s available services and to better serve their clients in the areas of large tenant improvement work and complicated lab and technology projects. As part of this acquisition, long time C.W. Driver Executive, Joe Grosshart transitioned over to take on the leadership role as President of Good & Roberts, LLC. While benefiting from C.W. Driver’s vast corporate resources, G&R continues to operate with the same, small company mentality that it has had for the last 40 years.

Successfully completing many complex and challenging projects, we take great pride in every project, our people, and the relationships we have formed with our customers. We say, “experience is everything,” because to us a positive customer experience is the most important product we create from our years of contracting experience.
